A file-transfer application lets you copy website files between your computer and your hosting account. Choose a maintained application and use the encrypted connection method supported by your account.
Choose an application from its official website
- WinSCP is an option for Windows.
- Cyberduck is available for macOS and Windows.
- FileZilla Client is another option. Select the client application when you want to connect to an existing hosting account.
Download from the publisher, review the installer choices and keep the application updated. Consult the publisher for current system requirements and licensing.
Connect with the correct settings
SFTP and FTPS are different protocols. Use the hostname, port, username and protocol provided for your service; changing a port alone does not convert one protocol into the other. SFTP access depends on the account’s SSH permissions. For more detail, see our SFTP and FTPS guide.
Verify the server identity before accepting a new SSH host key or certificate. If an existing connection suddenly reports an unexpected identity change, ask support to confirm it before proceeding. Do not disable certificate validation to make the warning disappear.
Transfer without losing existing work
Keep a backup before replacing files. Confirm the remote folder, review overwrite prompts and start with a small transfer. Avoid automatic synchronization that deletes remote files until you understand its direction and scope. File transfers alone do not copy a website’s database.
If the connection fails, send Nuagerie the application name, protocol, error message and approximate time through your Client Area. Do not include passwords or private keys. For help planning a transfer, use our contact form.
