This guide applies to mailboxes hosted in your cPanel account when email hosting is included in your service. If you use Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or another mail provider, manage your mailboxes in that service: creating one in cPanel does not move your email.
Create a mailbox
- Access cPanel through the route described in What is cPanel and how do you access it?. Open Email Accounts and check how many accounts you can create before selecting Create.
- Select the intended domain if a menu appears. In Username, enter the part of the address before the @ character, such as
contact. Check the complete address before continuing. - Set a long, unique password. A password manager can generate and store it for you. Meet the requirements shown in cPanel and avoid reusing your Client Area password.
- In the storage options, choose a quota that fits the mailbox’s needs and your service limits. The available choices depend on your service. Select Create, then check that the address appears in the list.
If the domain or creation option is missing, ask us to check before changing domain settings or email routing.
Check the mailbox, then connect your devices
Select Check Email to open Webmail. Send a test message to another address you control, then reply to it to check both directions of communication.
Next, select Connect Devices to find the settings for this mailbox. Follow our guide to setting up an email application. Use the settings shown for your account rather than those from another mailbox or an old server.
Manage passwords and available storage
- Password: open Manage to change it, then save the change. Update the devices and applications that use this mailbox as well.
- Storage: monitor both mailbox usage and hosting storage. A full mailbox can prevent new messages from arriving. Preserve messages you need before cleaning up, and increase the quota only within the available limits.
- Deletion: do not delete a mailbox to try to fix a connection problem. Deletion removes its messages and data.
For delivery problems, see our guide to troubleshooting sending and receiving email. If you notice unfamiliar outgoing messages, follow the guidance for responding to suspicious email activity.
Our team can help check your configuration and service limits. Open a request in your Client Area with the affected email address and error message, without sending your password.
