Which monitoring addresses should your firewall allow?

Approved monitoring sources depend on the service, its infrastructure provider and the agreed configuration. There is no single address list suitable for every Nuagerie server.

Get settings for the correct service

Before changing a firewall, open a request for the affected service. Explain which monitoring is used, which protocols are filtered and what you intend to change. Our team can confirm the applicable addresses or ranges, required ports and configuration responsibilities.

Do not reuse a list copied from an old article or another server. Provider settings can change, and an address approved for ICMP does not automatically require access to SSH, email or administration interfaces.

Apply a targeted rule

  1. Check the source, destination, protocol and port where applicable.
  2. Keep an independent recovery method before changing a remote firewall.
  3. Allow only the traffic required for the service.
  4. Confirm that monitoring checks arrive and that applications still work.

ICMP does not use TCP or UDP ports. A ping check, an HTTPS check and an application alert test different aspects of availability.

Understand monitoring coverage

An alert does not automatically mean that a technician will intervene within a defined period. Coverage, alert handling and intervention depend on the agreed service. Confirm these responsibilities alongside the firewall settings and retain the validated configuration in your documentation.
