Nuagerie has completed a targeted recovery check using a scheduled backup of its managed hosting platform. Our team restored a non-sensitive system file and confirmed that its contents and metadata matched the original. This exercise complements the monitoring of backup jobs with a practical restoration check.
Complementary backup layers
The platform combines hosting-account and configuration backups with a server image backup. These complementary layers give our team different starting points when assessing a recovery request. Before this exercise, completed backup jobs and available recovery points had been checked for both the account backups and the server image.
Following backup jobs helps the team identify problems that need attention. Restoration exercises then check whether selected content can be retrieved correctly. Together, these activities help us assess the backup process from the creation of a recovery point through to its use.
A controlled restoration from an automatic backup
Our team selected a recovery point from an automatic backup that had completed successfully. The chosen file was restored for comparison without replacing the original file in service. This kept the exercise focused on recovery while leaving normal operation unchanged.
The comparison covered the file’s contents, its SHA-256 fingerprint and its metadata. The fingerprint helps detect differences in the data, while the metadata checks confirm that the associated file attributes have been preserved. All comparisons matched the reference.
- The file was recovered from an existing scheduled backup.
- Its integrity and metadata were checked against the original.
- Temporary test material was removed once the exercise was complete.
- The outcome was recorded for future maintenance and follow-up.
What was tested and how it helps
This exercise confirmed a file-level restoration from the selected recovery point. Earlier platform preparation also included separate file and database recovery tests using test data. Each test has its own purpose, so the results describe the recovery operations actually performed.
For customers, this work provides a practical basis for discussing recovery options with our team. Those options depend on the subscribed service, retained recovery points and the data to be recovered. Nuagerie can help identify the relevant backup and clarify the requested restoration before proceeding. Careful monitoring and targeted recovery checks remain part of maintaining our hosting environment.
Make a recovery request specific
A useful recovery request identifies what needs to return and what should remain as it is. Recovering one deleted document differs from restoring a website and its database. Nuagerie can help examine the available options against that scope, including the recent work or transactions that a restore could replace.
Use the client area to provide the affected service, the missing or changed content and the last time it was known to be correct. Say whether new orders or other important changes have occurred since then. For planned maintenance, the same information can help clarify a recovery approach before the work begins.
